Boston Legacy Conceded 15 Goals in Five August Matches
Between August 2 and August 31, Boston Legacy played five matches, took one point, and conceded fifteen goals.
The month reset the season, and it did so in one direction only.
The five matches
A 1-1 draw with Denver on August 2. Then 3-4 to Portland, 1-4 at Racing Louisville, 1-2 at North Carolina, and 2-5 against Angel City on August 31.
Eight goals scored across those five. That is not the output of a broken attack — it is roughly the rate Boston managed all season. Everything that changed happened at the other end.
What came before it
Boston went into August having beaten Kansas City 1-0 in July, Orlando 1-0 away, and Chicago 2-0. Three clean sheets in a five-week stretch.
A team that keeps three clean sheets in July and concedes fifteen in August has not forgotten how to defend. Something specific changed — personnel, fitness, or shape — and it changed quickly.
The September 4 answer
Boston’s first match after the collapse was away at Utah Royals, a side in fourth. They won 2-1.
One result does not undo a month, but it does argue against the simplest explanation. This is not a squad that stopped being competitive at the end of an expansion season.
Why it matters for the run-in
Seven matches remain: Washington away on September 13, Houston at home, Seattle away, Portland away, Racing at home, then San Diego and Angel City away to finish.
Five of the seven are on the road, and three are against teams that scored four or more against Boston already this season. If the August defending was a blip, this schedule will say so quickly.
The offseason question
Boston finish their first season with an attack that works and a defense that conceded forty goals. For an expansion club, that is a more encouraging split than the reverse.
The five matches in August are the clearest evidence of what has to be fixed, and the clearest argument that it is fixable.
